Aims and Objectives

The objects of EDP Trust are to advance any purposes which are charitable under the laws of England and Wales and in particular to advance education and to relieve poverty for the public benefit.

In shaping the objectives for the year and planning the charity's future activities, the trustees referred to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit.

Achievements and Performance

The charity will act as a grant-making foundation, supporting education and development related projects which benefit children in the developing world. At present, the trustees intend to focus on projects in Ghana.

Currently, the charity's almost exclusive focus is on the running costs and further development of a senior secondary school for disadvantaged students near Accra, the capital of Ghana. The school is now comprised of two large classroom blocks, an IT suite, science lab and library, as well as sporting and toilet/shower facilities. In addition, an examination/ assembly hall was completed in 2013. There are currently around 305 students between the ages of 14 and 20. Almost half of the first batch of graduates and two thirds of the second batch performed well enough in their WASSCE exams ('A' level equivalent) to qualify for tertiary education.

The Awutu-Winton Senior High School is a registered NGO in Ghana. As of 2014 it produces and files its own accounts in the country but remains answerable to the UK charity, which closely supervises its operations via a team of volunteers on the ground in Ghana.
