The ADOM project , was the brain child of Peter Donkor, a Ghanaian teaching at the Winton Comprehensive School in Andover, Hampshire. Driven by the idea of creating a link between his native Ghana and his adopted English community, he set out raise money for the construction of a school in Ghana and in 2004 the Winton School Ghana project was born, code named the Adom ("Hope") project.
Peter and his colleagues raised some £25 000 for the ADOM project. Awutu Bereku, West of Accra, with a population of around 100,000 was selected as the location for the Winton School, Ghana because there was NO secondary school in the area. With the money raised land was purchased and building started on the proposed 3 class rooms, IT lab and a library. Sadly fund raising efforts dwindled, enthusiasm faded and by 2007, with the project needing a further £25,000, building came to a standstill.
