Enough cash was pledged to ensure that the building of the first two phases was completed and that the IT department was fitted out to a good specification, complete with internet connection.
Retired UK structural engineer, Martin Moore, based in North London, is overseeing the building operations . Local Awutu surveyor Edward Quarshie, with the assistance of Martin is engaged in building the school. Ghanaian structural engineer, Baffour Akoto Osei from Accra makes regular visits to the site.
Project Manager,James Riggs, appointed in February 2010 by EDP, is now on the ground in Awutu with the resposnibility of supervising all the different strands of the project - which has now moved from the launch of the school in September 2010 through to the succesful conclusion of the first year in July 2011 with 103 students completing the first stage of their 3 year secondary curriculum.
An IT department, supported by Hampshire Business Computers, based in Romsey, Hampshire was set up in September 2010. It consists of 20 PCs and laptops , supported by Microsoft Office packages , with remote support to Awutu .
Local interest is growing and includes the donation of a 40' container from 'Fiorelli' the accessories brand , which is now in Ghana.
This was filled up with chairs, desks and office equipment much of which has been donated through Martin Thomas (another Andover businessman) the Managing Director of Capio Nightingale Hospital, central London's leading independent mental health hospital.
A collection of bicycles was also included in the shipment thanks to generous support from local , primarily Andover based businesses & individuals.
