Project Aims

The time table was set with the first 70+ students enrolling at the start of 2010 academic year in September. Currently a three year curriculum is underway involving IT, Languages and Maths, General science , English and Social Scinces, including government, business and economics. By the start of the 2011/2 intake we will have built classroom accommodation sufficient for at least 175 students.

The objectives of both the EDP-Trust and the UK Winton governors is that the Winton School Ghana will be academically selective and free of charges for those students in the Awutu region who qualify for admission.

Funds will need to be generated through EDP to provide for the construction costs, but the long term objective is to make the school financially secure by creating a partnership between EDP Trust and numerous sponors, both within and outside Ghana, as well as creating profitable, locally based, enterprises which will help to generate profits towards the running of the school.

All partners in the project view this as an exciting opportunity to involve students, teaching staff and parents from the local Andover region where EDP is based and beyond, through its growing netwrok of supporters , in building links with Awutu with future student/teacher exchanges a possibility.

Our aim therefore is to promote the capabilities of the residents of Awutu, Ghana, by providing a free and sustainable secondary school so as to empower them to make a better life for themselves and their families . Teaching will be in accordance with the local education authority and provision of the - nationally accredited - secondary certification in education to increase graduate employablity.

However we are also acutely aware of the social impact education has and our responsibility to provide this . Accordingly in due course we aim to promote adult literacy and health classes outside of school hours , especially for the under-represented , and most vulnerbale , female population.

The ultimate goal is a highly motivated Secondary School in Southern Ghana, complete with every facility that is available typically at the Winton School Andover – including eventually a first rate sports division.
